1st Bachok Contemporary Art Biennale 2021 (BACA 01)
Theme: Bachok Heritage Trail
Hashtag: #PAMERBachok
INTRODUCTION :
The origin of the name "Bachok" has several versions. One version claims Bachok was named after a person named Tok Bachok, whom people believed to be the first settler in the area. Traders from China traveled to Pengkalan Cina of Bachok to trade silk and spices. The popular version of the name's origin, according to local inhabitants, originates from two Siamese words, Ban and Chak: Ban means village, and Chak means nipa (a native mangrove plant). The local Siamese call the place Ban Chak, referring to the more populated and possibly earlier settlement immediately to the south of Bachok Town, the actual Kampung Nipah today. Bachok Town was possibly part of the larger Kampung Nipah then. The pronunciation of Ban Chak was later invariably changed to Bachok to suit the local Malay accent. (Source: Wikipedia).

Bachok has many beautiful sights related to Cultural Heritage Tourism, Beach Tourism, Community Based Tourism - Rural, Agro Tourism, Cultural Heritage Tourism, Carpentry, Islamic Architecture, Visual Arts, and Education Hubs. With the slogan of "Islamic Tourism Town", Bachok district is experiencing rapid growth of tourism industry with the implementation of Islamic values in daily life. This fact is also related to the state of Kelantan being declared as the "Cradle of Culture" with the most populous is Malays. Hence, there is a lot of native Malay nation's cultural heritage that is still practiced in the society in Bachok district as a way of life. However, based on the current situation with the covid-19 pandemic attack spreading around the world, the Bachok tourism industry has also received its negative impact. Therefore, it is hoped that once the doors of Malaysia can be opened to receive tourists, the tourism industry in Bachok district will return to the increase. With the events through this international Contemporary Art Biennale 2021 project, the Bachok district will become a must-visit location for all local and international tourists.
